Arrival And Information - Playa Del Carmen
Buses pull in at the corner of Av 5 and Av Juárez, the main street running east-west from the highway to the beach; some second-class buses stop one or two blocks further inland on Juárez. If you're heading into Playa from the international airport in Cancún, any number of private operators will take you in air-conditioned minibuses (approx US$15 per person; ask your hotel to organize pick-ups on your return). The tourist information centre , on Av Juarez between Av 15 and Av 20 (daily 9am-9pm; tel 9/873-2804) is very helpful with bilingual staff who'll do their best to answer any enquiries you may have. Pick up a copy of the useful Destination Playa del Carmen , which has a very good map, hotel and restaurant listings. Beware the other tourist information booths scattered around town, as they're mostly tied up with some ulterior motive - selling timeshares, for example. The best way to visit local sites of interest is to hire a taxi , which will take you on a round-trip including waiting time for as little as half the price of any tour company.
